I’ll tell you a little about myself.
I work as a doctor and specialize in four areas: ultrasound diagnostics, radiology, therapy, and nutrition. This is the result of many years of study and a genuine desire to help people. In school, I got almost all A’s, although physics and chemistry were a struggle for me; on the other hand, I was very good at English and German, and I really enjoyed those classes. After high school, I trained as a paramedic for a year, then enrolled in medical school.
The first few months after graduation were tough; I worked part-time at McDonald’s to make ends meet. But I always tried to be independent and believed that hard work would eventually lead me to my goal.
Now I work as a radiologist, taking X-rays, analyzing them, and helping to make diagnoses. It’s a high-stakes job how quickly a patient receives treatment often depends on our assessment.
Every Sunday (and sometimes on Saturdays), I visit the Nizhneturinsky Children’s Residential Care Home. Children with developmental disabilities live there. They are very bright and open, but often feel lonely. I try to give them a little warmth; we play, read, and talk. For me, this isn’t a heroic act, but simply being human. These trips remind me why I chose medicine.
As a student, I was part of a medical volunteer group; we traveled to remote villages where there wasn’t even a clinic. Since then, my core values have been empathy and humanity. I’m convinced that you can change the world by starting small.
As for my personal life… I was in a serious, long term relationship. Unfortunately, it left deep scars. The man I lived with for several years was physically abusive toward me. And first of all thank you for your compliment. It made me happy, honestly. I don’t always take them easily, but hearing it from you was truly heartwarming. And since you sent a photo, I’m sharing mine too just as I promised.
How was your day? Mine was quite eventful, filled not only with photos and cameras, but also with real human stories. In the morning, an elderly woman came to see me; she’d made her way here on her own from a remote area, holding a worn-out bag and a referral from her primary care doctor. She complained of chest pain, but was afraid they wouldn’t find anything again, because she’d already sought help for this problem only at a different hospital. She spoke softly, her eyes filled with fear: “Doctor, I want to see my grandchildren…” I was deeply moved by this.
I tried to be as gentle as possible, explained how the procedure would go, helped her get into the right position, and placed a pillow under her lower back to make her more comfortable. When the X-ray was ready, I examined the details and it turned out that there were indeed changes in her lungs requiring urgent monitoring. But most importantly, she wasn’t left alone with her fear. I hope that thanks to the timely diagnosis, she’ll still have plenty of time to enjoy the joys and antics of her grandchildren.
Then there was another case a young man, a construction worker, who fell from a ladder. He came in with severe back pain, pale, but smiling through the pain. He told me, “I need to get better quickly; my family is waiting.” The X-ray showed a compression fracture. I saw him clench his teeth as we were positioning him, but he never once complained. And then he quietly asked, “Will I be able to work again?”
I answered honestly, but with hope: “You will… The main thing is not to waste any time now.” And he nodded, as if accepting this as a new challenge. I so wanted to believe that everything would work out for him…
But the hardest moment came toward evening. A six-year-old boy was brought in after a car accident. His mother was sobbing in the hallway, his father stood silently by the door, deeply worried about his son. I took the X-ray, trying to speak calmly and gently so the little boy wouldn’t be scared. He was trembling, but trying to be brave. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries just bruises. But at that moment, I was worried for him, because every mistake, every delay and someone’s life could change forever.
Sometimes it seems to me that people don’t understand how important our work is beyond the technology and radiation. We don’t just take images we’re the first to see what’s hidden beneath the skin: disease, injury, and sometimes the hope of recovery. And whether treatment begins in time depends on how closely we look.
I often wonder: why is there so little support for those who find themselves in trouble because of their health? Why do so many have to choose between medicine and food? Why does the system sometimes view the patient as an object rather than a person?
I believe that medicine should be not only precise, but also humane. Behind every image lies someone’s pain, fear, love, or dream. And that compassion is not a weakness, but part of professionalism.
Sometimes I feel exhausted to the bone… But then I remember the look in that grandmother’s eyes or the smile of the boy who said: “Thank you, auntie, you didn’t hurt me” and I realize: I must keep going.
I’d like to hear your opinion. Do you think it’s possible to combine diagnostic accuracy with genuine care for the person? And how, in your view, can society better support people who find themselves in trouble because of illness?

I hope you're doing well! How's the weather in your city? We had some bad weather this morning there was a terribly cold wind, so I didn't even dare to walk as usual and called a taxi instead. I’d like to tell you a little about my usual routine. My workday starts at 8:00 a.m. with checking the equipment, preparing the office, and reviewing doctors’ orders. A radiologist’s job isn’t just about performing exams, but also carefully analyzing images, consulting with colleagues, and sometimes responding to emergency calls in the wards. My regular workday ends at 5:30 p.m., but I often have to stay late, especially when urgent cases come in or complex diagnoses need to be clarified. In addition to my main job, I regularly visit the Nizhneturinsky Children’s Home. My weekends aren’t always weekends, especially if the day before was tough. But I try to set aside at least Saturday for myself. On Saturdays, I often go to a museum or just take a walk in the park; it’s important for me to find moments of quiet after a stressful week.
I live in a neighborhood not quite close to the city center; it’s about a 20-minute bus ride to the clinic. Sometimes I walk, especially when the weather permits; it helps me gather my thoughts. I only take a taxi when it’s snowing or icy; I don’t want to take any risks, since every day of mine begins with responsibility for others.
After work, I go home and make dinner often simple but tasty: vegetable stew, baked fish, or sometimes rice with chicken. I love cooking; it’s my way of disconnecting from everything and spending some time alone. I try to go to the pool twice a week; the water helps me relax after a long day in my protective apron and gloves. I usually go to bed around 10:30 p.m. Before sleeping, I read not just professional literature, but also fiction; I especially love historical novels.
On weekends, I love walking through the old streets of the city, especially where there are few cars, lots of trees, and you can hear birds singing. Sometimes I meet up with my friend Nastya; we’ve been friends since our college days. She has two children, and I love spending time with them. in the winter we often build snowmen with them and play snowball fights, and in the summer, we love going to the river, riding bikes, and we often visit sandboxes with the kids, trying to build sandcastles; sometimes we just chat over a cup of tea, not noticing how quickly time flies. Sometimes I help her figure out medical issues; not everyone understands how our healthcare system works.
I also love taking a warm lavender bath after a stressful week; it’s like a reset for the body and soul.
