I am an Interventional Cardiologist and a Vascular Interventional Specialist and i completed specialist training in November 1991. I have been in the UK for 20 years and over the last 19 years have been in Cardiology practice. I look to a new direction and after much reflection it was time to bring my adventure abroad to a close, and I travelled to Italy in pursuit to create something to good purpose.
My curriculum vitae, though detailed, hopefully paints a clear picture. Nevertheless, I will give a brief introduction to my career.
I graduated from the University Hospital Jean-Minjoz, Besançon, France in Novenber 1991; and moved to the UK in December 1991 where I underwent extensive training in Internal Medicine and obtained some Membership positions. I began training in Cardiology in 1992 and have worked at the tertiary cardiothoracic centres at the University Hospitals in Coventry, Cardiff and Leicester with many of Britain’s finest Cardiologists.
I have vast experience in almost every aspect of clinical cardiology – coronary heart disease, valvular heart disease, arrhythmias, heart failure, transthoracic & transoesophageal echocardiography including dobutamine stress echo, pacemaker and defibrillator implantations – and my particular area of expertise is Interventional Cardiology for both coronary and structural heart disease (patent foramen ovale/atrial septal defect closures, mitral balloon valvuloplasty, transcatheter aortic valve implantations). In fact the Glenfield Hospital Heart Centre in Leicester is no doubt one of the leading clinical interventional units in the UK and in my time there I gained valuable experience in Interventional Cardiology.
In 2007 I embarked on an Interventional Fellowship in Italy at the Cardio-Angiology Unit, Villa Maria Cecilia Hospital which is a major international centre and one of the foremost centres in the world in the arena of carotid artery stenting. There, for a period of more or less 18 months, I underwent high-specialisation in Endovascular Surgery in the techniques of carotid and peripheral angioplasty and stenting (peripheral arterial disease, renal artery stenosis, aortic aneurysmal disease). Through a coordinated high-specialization programme with University of Milan-Bicocca, training under great Surgeons, Radiologists and Cardiologists – icons in their fields - I obtained the Master in Endovascular Techniques, the first initiative of its kind in the world; and in reality I would be atleast among the first set of UK Cardiologist to have undertaken such advanced training. I have developed a particular interest in the emerging therapies for acute stroke endovascular intervention, a strategy on the horizon that may prove to be the promising therapy for acute stroke. This novel area is receiving widespread attention around the world.
I am committed to collaboration to develop both established and cutting-edge medical services and technologies to bring life-saving and life-enhancing therapies to the people of this world.
